St. Petersburg Summer University (SUSTP)

The “St. Petersburg Summer University” (SUSTP) was open to all students and helped all participants to gain from new methods of lecturing and research as well as enjoying the international atmosphere. As set by the traditional program itself, this program brings also regional and international professors and lecturers for a period of two weeks together and provides the opportunity for local and international students to learn and share their experiences.

St. Petersburg

Saint Petersburg (Санкт-Петербург) is a city and a federal subject (a federal city) of Russia located on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. Saint Petersburg was founded by the Tsar Peter the Great on May 27 1703. From 1713 to 1728 and from 1732 to 1918, St. Petersburg was the Imperial capital of Russia. It is Russia’s second-largest city after Moscow, with 5 million inhabitants. St. Petersburg is a major European cultural center, and also an important Russian port on the Baltic Sea. Saint Petersburg is often described as the most Westernized city of Russia, as well as its cultural capital. It is the northernmost city in the world to have a population of over one million. The Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Saint Petersburg is also home to The Hermitage, one of the largest art museums in the world. A large number of foreign consulates, international corporations, banks and other businesses are located in Saint Petersburg.

The Summer University took place during the best time the city can offer: white nights.

Beside me, there was no foreign teacher. All the advertisement was made with foreign professors, but at the end, we had me and Russian teachers.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Objectives
The attendee will learn and practice how to generate and enhance effective communication skills in social medium; how different intercultural contexts and communicating technologies influence on communicative competence and personal effectiveness.
“Beyond professional boundaries” means without regard to your qualification, profession, but ad hoc, in intercultural context, task-built.
Visiting different media and art centres, studios in St. Petersburg will let the attendees plunge into unique medium – the mixture of different cultures, art and science, experiment and knowledge, old and new technologies, experience and novelty.

•            Modern world as a “global village” or a just a “visual image” which a communicator has on a personal device and has to manage it

Born in 1982 in Tartu, Estonia. Began military career in 1996 enrolled in the Suvorov Military School in St. Petersburg. Studied Computers Science, Complexes and Networks at the Mozhaiskogo Military-Space Academy in St. Petersburg from 1999 to 2004 (Gold Medal). Military service as an professional contract officer of Russian Army. For special services received the rank ahead of the captain in 2007. Parallel with military service received second higher education “Communication Network and Switching Systems” at the Bonch-Bruevich State University of Telecommunications of ST. Petersburg (diploma with honours). Assistant Professor for Networks Science at the University of Telecommunications of St. Petersburg from 2007 to 2012. Ph.D. in Networks Science from the University of Telecommunications of St. Petersburg 2012. Associate Professor for Networks Science at the University of Telecommunication of St. Petersburg from 2012 – at the moment. Actively participated in the development of National Standards for the information security. Author of more than 30 scientific papers. Member of the IEEE since 2009. In addition, head of the Laboratory Internet of Things at the University of Telecommunications of St. Petersburg.

Building an Internet of Things: from idea to series production

Course Objective
The course provides an overview of modern technological approaches to constructing Internet of Things. After successful accomplishing the course, students will know the stages of development of the Internet of Things, which will fully realize their own ideas. Course focuses on the use of open source software and hardware for prototyping.

Gleb G. Rogozinsky is a deputy head of Media Labs at The Bonch-Bruevich Saint-Petersburg State University of Telecommunications (SUT), Russia. He reads lectures for foreign students on themes related to computer music, sound processing, audiovisual programming and coding standards.
Gleb graduated from Saint-Petersburg State University of Film and Television in 2006 as a Master in Radio Engineering. His diploma was on Methods of Wavelet Sound Synthesis. Several years later Gleb successfully defended PhD dissertation Perceptual Audio Coding based on Wavelet Packets and has become PhD in 2010.
Besides SUT, Gleb professes at Interactive Arts department of Saint-Petersburg State University of Film and Television, teaching sound producers and media artists.
Gleb is one of the contributors for the open language of computer music Csound. He developed several objects for it and took part in number of international activities, including International Csound Conferences at Hannover High School of Music and Theatre (Hannover, Germany, 2011) and Music College of Berklee (Boston, USA, 2013).

Gleb Rogozinsky’s scientific interests include artificial intelligence, cognitive networks and audiovisual processing, as well as modern music composition, especially academic electronic music. He is the author of several compositions.

Course: Computer Music and Sound Design

The main subject of this course is sound synthesis and audio programming in sound design and computer music.
The course is based on Csound – the popular C-based language for computer music and digital signal processing. Students who apply to the course will study sound synthesis techniques including FM and granular synthesis, get familiar with special communication protocols like MIDI and OSC, be able to build own VST plug-ins and learn how to use algorithms for music scores generation.

Evgenija made a very good job and there was no reclamation. She has things coming already in advance.

The responsible manager in SUT was Prof. Nina Zhuravleva, the head of “International Departement”. Nina made a professional job.

IAFeS main partner for organizing this summer university was Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Oleg Zolotokrylin. He is the supporter of the summer university idea and he was present at the main events.

The group from China had 2 teachers for support with them, which was nessecary, because all students were young and first time abroad.

The Cyprus group had also own teacher with them.

This made the control more easy.

The afternoon programs and excursions for students were organized by students from SUT.

The students made an excellent job and were very well exepted by the students.

For the seminar rooms there was staff from SUT: technician for technical equipment, general seminar room subjects, etc

All students could follow all subjects.
The timetable was made, that this was possible.
Due tot he fact, that weh ad just 24 students and 4 moduls, we could allow this. One teacher had in average 6 students in one group, but he / she had to teach the same several times.

The only exception was Russian language. This was made for all students in one class room at the same time.

The students will have the chance, to learn theoretically about communication technologies and rules of journalism. But they also can work with new media by themselves. They will produce own TV- and radio clips. The group will visit newspapers, television studios and other media companies.
